Today at CakeEaters meeting, we had a presentation by David Rhoads, about the new teen center in Saline, 5th Corner. It's a place where teens from 6th to 12th grade can come to play games, talk, study, meet friends, watch movies, etc. They are looking for people to become involved, by volunteering time, teaching, leading groups, and do all the things needed by a community center. They are also looking for funding.
So, all the coffee cup quilts I have for sale at Two Twelve Arts Center, in my show Hawaiian Holiday, will benefit 5th Corner. You can write a check directly to them, if you wish to purchase one. It's a small step in the right direction.

This quilt is the winner. It's simple, colorful, dramatic, and teachable. I think people can make 2 quilt tops like this in a day. So, sign up for my class at QU this July. I call this one Giant RickRack. Number 12.

This was another quilt I made while searching for the fast one to teach this summer, at QU, the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild summer program. I call this Snakes Alive. number 11

Today I hung my show Hawaiian Holiday, at the new Two Twelve Arts Center. It has moved 2 doors west from the original location. I am lucky to be the first Featured Artist at the new place, so I tried to really make it pop.
I hope you will come to see the show, it starts Tuesday, Feb. 1, until Feb. 28. The best time to come will be the reception, Friday, Feb. 18th, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In the upstairs room, are the Art Salad Challenge pieces. While waiting for some to be brought in, I hung a place holder. And the last 4 Hawaiian flowers are here.

I made this leaflet book at Art in a Bar. It's a fun, monthly art group, moderated by a friend. Number 10 for the year.

Number 8, a lap quilt top. Made with Kaffee Fassett fabrics, which I have been hoarding.

Here it is! It has a mask, a snake, alligator, zebras, birds, what more could you want? It's about 6 by 7 feet.
I just finished a large African fabric quilt. This was a big project. I don't have room to take a picture of the whole thing, until I take down a large quilt. I'll post a picture as soon as I can. Number 7.

ART SALAD CHALLENGE!
The idea is to make a picture of what's inside you. Your contents are totally up to you. The media may be fabric or paper. The due date is Monday, Feb 7th at Art Salad class, 6 p.m. at Two Twelve Arts. If you bring it ready to hang, your art will be in the Hawaiian Holiday show, with my challenge pieces.

I am hard at work putting hangers on 50 quilts. This is taking some time, I have to redo 20 of them.
4 hours later...Yahoo, I'm done! With this batch anyway.

Hawaiian Chicken 2, finished except the binding. This was a very big project, in the works for a couple weeks. I am relieved to finish it. Number 6 for 2011.

The first Hawaiian Chicken is done. I quilted and bound it. Now on to the next one. Number 5 for 2011.

This was number 90 in May last year. I just quilted it.

Numbers 1,2,3,4 for the new year. Two memory wire bracelets, and 2 seed bead rings.

Happy New Year to all. My wish for you is that this year brings more laughs than tears, more success than failures, more friends than ever, and sweet contentment whatever comes. My official item count for the year is 335. (The Hawaiian chicken is not counted, so it may be first this new year.)

Hard at work all day, on a Maui Chicken quilt. This will take several days more to finish. It's a center piece for my upcoming solo show at 212 Arts in February. The reception is Feb. 18, 7 to 9 p.m. It will be the Grand Opening of the New 212 Arts! 23 steps west of the current building.

I am working on 2 coffee quilts, after Christmas will post. Hope you and yours have a good visit, a warm meal, and make happy memories. Merry Christmas.

My good friend Babe made 2 of these stacked felt squares ornaments for me, and then let me make 3 more! Isn't it cute? A good way to use small scraps of felted sweaters. 330-332.

Gaines Collins came up with a terrific way to use printed squares fabric, for wrapping gifts. She sewed 3 sides by machine, then hand stitched the last side, after filling. The long red thread pulls off to open. Now I have a use for the 12 Days of Christmas fabric I've been keeping.

Holly Kreag and Nancy Miller participated in the Cafe Challenge, to make art based on a take out cup. Holly made a luscious cup of Java, and Nancy made a delicious Mocha Chocolate lip balm. You already saw my entry. Aren't these nice people creative?
