Today was the Last Saturday ArtSmart for June. We had pretty good weather, and a fun day. The Plein Aire Painters were around town too, so watch for great pictures.

You should go see this museum, it is wonderful, and each room is better than the last.
At the Nelson Atkins museum, in Kansas City, MO. we saw wonderful things. There is a great painting by Sargent, the young man, with lively brushwork. There was a terrific collection of African art too.
And this is a bultos, a 3D carving of a saint. It's from New Mexico.

We had lunch at California Tacos, about a mile from the museum. It was on the Food Network. Good food, old time ambiance.
At the Joslyn Art Center, in Omaha, I could only take pictures in the atrium and entry, but the exhibit of American Impressionists and Post Impressionists was Impressive. We loved it, amazing. It's there until Sept. 19 I believe. It was worth the drive.

There are several buildings at the Joslyn Art Center, we only went into one.

This is my avatar, Land'o'Lakes. Since I found out Ohio has no lakes but Erie that are not man made, I feel the wealth of Michigan. I forgot to show you this a few nights ago, when I laid it all out. Today I did the stitching you can see.
This shows one day of work. Almost all the pins are out, and the pieces tacked down. I have some cool hand-dyed silk thread to embroider it.

This is a self portrait quilt. I'll do a lot of hand stitching on it.

I finished a puzzle started by my kids. Some of the pieces ended up in the grass. It was fun, haven't done one in a long time.

Friday, June 11, 2010

Don't yet know what I'll make with these, but I felt like embroidering.

This is Buddy. He's an old, blind Mini Pinscher. He gets lost in the corners of the room, bumps his nose on chair legs, boldly leaps onto the couch to be next to me, tries to follow the sound of my voice to get back in the house, searches for a sunny spot by feeling the heat, always wants a treat, never gives up. Good dog.

A first look at some new mosaic mirrors. This has been a fun weekend.

Finally! New stuff. Two small wall quilts, one is Hearts, number 164, the other is Flowers, number 165.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Well, hello again. I have been busy celebrating 3 birthdays, and having a guest for a day. And I finally found something to wear to three weddings this summer, and returned the 4 outfits I tried out. Sorry for the long delay.
Today I got all the stuff ready for Art Salad, which is Monday, June 7th. Thanks to Kate Lebowsky for the great idea, we are making flip books, and embellishing the covers. As for mine, I like the slightly wacky use of collaged words on the cover. But I expect some will make elegant and beautiful covers, too. Class is 6p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Two Twelve Arts. See you there?
p.s. I started using mine as a sketch book of faces. Can you believe it? Me sketching?
